The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) has authority for crude oil and petroleum product pipeline siting. Enbridge is asking for a rubber-stamp to replace and relocate the segment of its Line 5 oil pipeline that currently crosses the Straits of Mackinac into a tunnel beneath the Straits of Mackinac.

This application does not request approval of the tunnel itself, which is the subject of separate applications addressed by other state and federal agencies. This application does not request approval of the tunnel itself, which is the subject of separate applications addressed by other state and federal agencies. Any approval must take into account the need for this pipeline and for impacts to the climate, which Enbridge is incredulously claiming is not required.
